SAU Baseball Takes Series After Doubleheader Split Against UVA-Wise

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 4) – Saint Augustine's University won the season series against the University of Virginia-Wise after splitting a baseball doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The Falcons (2-1 overall) bounced back to beat the Cavaliers 6-2 in the second game after falling 7-2 in the first game. The second-game win allowed the Falcons to take two out of three games against the Cavaliers (1-2 overall) over the weekend. On Friday, Feb. 2, the Falcons were victorious in the season opener 3-0.


In the second game, the Falcons scored four runs in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie. Both Carson Davis (Jr./Lumberton, NC) and Alton Brown (So./Durham, NC) smacked two-run singles to give the Falcons a 5-1 lead that ultimately decided the outcome. Davis added an RBI single in the fourth inning for a 6-1 lead.

The Falcons pounded out 13 hits in the victory. Hector Pichardo (Jr./Dominican Republic) was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored and Davis was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored. Brown was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Johnathan Sierra (Jr./Raleigh, NC) was 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Kilvio Garcia (Jr./Bronx, NY) picked up the win in relief. He gave up no runs in three innings.

In the first game, Davis hit a two-run double to tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning, but the Cavaliers scored five unanswered runs for the win. Avery Rosania (Jr./Catonsville, MD) was 1-for-2 with one run scored for the Falcons.


The Falcons will take a break during the week before hosting West Liberty University in a four-game series Feb. 10 and Feb. 11 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The first game starts at 1 p.m. each day.
