Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. (March 22) – Saint Augustine's University led late but fell 13-8 to North Carolina Wesleyan College in a single nine-inning baseball game at Bauer Field in Rocky Mount, N.C., on Thursday.
The Falcons led 5-1 in the second inning and 8-4 in the seventh inning, but the Battling Bishops scored eight runs in the bottom seventh for a 12-8 lead. N.C. Wesleyan added one more run in the eighth inning.
The trio of Nick Roets (Fr./Charlotte, NC), Derrick Rabb, Jr. (Fr./Charlotte, NC) and Johnathan Sierra (Jr./Raleigh, NC) each knocked in a run for the Falcons, who had 12 hits. Cody Harris (Jr./Lumberton, NC) was 2-for-4 with one run scored while Roets, Rabb and Jamal Keels (Jr./Manning, SC) each finished with two hits. Roets and Keels each scored a run for the Falcons.
Keyed by RBIs from Rabb and Roets, the Falcons scored four runs in the second inning for a 5-1 lead. The Battling Bishops closed within 5-4 on three runs in the fourth, but the Falcons stretched the margin to 8-4 with three runs in the seventh. The Falcons scored on an error and two wild pitches.
The Battling Bishops (13-14 overall) relied on a big seventh inning for the win. They finished the game with 15 hits including three home runs to offset seven errors.
The Falcons (10-16 overall) are back in action Tuesday, March 27, against William Peace University at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Game time for the nine-inning contest is 7 p.m.
