RALEIGH, N.C. (April 15) – Stephon Hines (R-Fr./Coatesville, PA) smacked a solo home run for Saint Augustine's University in doubleheader losses to Virginia State University at Whaley Colbert Field in Ettrick, Va., on Sunday. The scores were 13-3 in the first game and 13-5 in the second game.
Hines homered in the fifth inning of the first game for the Falcons. The homer was the third this season for Hines, who leads the team.
In the first game, Jamal Keels (Jr./Manning, SC) gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly. Carson Davis (Jr./Oakboro, NC) scored the third run for the Falcons in the sixth on an RBI single.
Kilvio Garcia (Jr./Bronx, NY) batted 2-for-3 with a triple and one run scored for the Falcons. Brandon Bly (R-Jr./New Castle, DE) also scored a run.
In the second game, Nick Roets (Fr./Charlotte, NC) stole home in the first inning to put the Falcons ahead 1-0. In the fourth inning, Davis drove in two runs with a double and Avery Rosania (Jr./Catonsville, MD) hit an RBI single. The Falcons scored their final run against Virginia State (21-13-1 overall) in the fifth on Bly's sacrifice fly.
Keels was 2-for-3 with one run scored for the Falcons (12-23 overall). The trio of Bly, Davis and Hines each scored a run.
The Falcons travel to Murfreesboro, N.C., this weekend to visit Chowan University in a four-game series. Both teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21, and Sunday, April 22, beginning at 1 p.m. both days.
