SAU Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against Virginia State

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 15) – Jamal Keels (Jr./Manning, SC) and Avery Rosania (Jr./Catonsville, MD) both drove in two runs to lead Saint Augustine's University past Virginia State University 7-3 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader at Whaley Colbert Field in Ettrick, Va., on Saturday, April 14. The Falcons fell 9-1 in the second game.

Keels gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead in the first inning when he hit a two-run double and scored on a wild pitch. The Trojans chopped the Falcons' lead to 3-2 heading into the fourth, but Rosania scored Carson Davis (Jr./Oakboro, NC) and Kilvio Garcia (Jr./Bronx, NY) and later scored on a single by Cody Harris (Jr./Lumberton, NC) for a 6-2 lead.

After the Trojans scored one run in the sixth, the Falcons completed the scoring in the seventh on an RBI sacrifice bunt by Nick Roets (Fr./Charlotte, NC).

Amilcar Yanez (Jr./Valencia, Venezuela) took the win for the Falcons (12-21 overall). He threw a six-hitter in five innings with six strikeouts, one walk and two earned runs.

In the second game, the Falcons trailed 4-0 before Roets' RBI single in the fifth. The Trojans (19-13-1 overall) scored five runs in the sixth to put the game away.

Both teams play a doubleheader Sunday on Virginia State's campus. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
