SAU Baseball Falls Twice To Winston-Salem State

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 29) – Saint Augustine's University concluded the baseball season with doubleheader losses to Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Sunday. The scores were 6-1 and 14-5 at BB&T Ballpark.

Brandon Bly (R-Jr./New Castle, DE) drove in the Falcons' only run in the first game. His single scored Alton Brown (So./Durham, NC) in the seventh inning.

Brown scored the Falcons' first run in the second game on an infield error in the third inning. The Falcons scored their second run in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Johnathan Sierra (Jr./Raleigh, NC).

The Falcons added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Carson Davis (Jr./Oakboro, NC). They tacked on two runs in the seventh on an RBI triple by Bly and a sacrifice fly by Nick Roets (Fr./Charlotte, NC).

Despite the loss, the Falcons totaled three triples and one double in the game. Bly led the Falcons at the plate, batting 2-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and one run scored. Cody Harris (Jr./Lumberton, NC) was 2-for-2 with a triple, double and one run scored, and Hector Pichardo (Jr./Dominican Republic) was 1-for-2 with a triple and one run scored. Davis was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Roets had two RBIs.

On a side note, relief pitcher Jeffrey Guzman (Sr./Raleigh, NC) struck out his brother Wellington Guzman of the Rams in the fourth inning.

The Falcons ended their season at 12-29 overall. The Rams improved to 30-17.
