SAU Women's Basketball Plays Tough In Loss To Regionally-Ranked Bowie State

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 10) – Saint Augustine's University went toe-to-toe with regionally-ranked Bowie State University in a 60-52 CIAA women's basketball loss at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday.
 

Shankia Clark (Jr./Orlando, FL) continued her impressive play, producing her second consecutive double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) for the Lady Falcons. She led a Lady Falcons' effort that throttled the Bulldogs in the first half.
 

The Lady Falcons led 23-20 at halftime after holding Bowie State to 26.1 percent shooting in the first half. The Bulldogs, tied for fourth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region poll, heated up in the second half to claim a 13-point lead but could never shake the Lady Falcons.
 

In the fourth period, Kamya Renwicks (Jr./Baltimore, MD) scored four points and Clark added three points during an 8-0 run in a roughly two-minute span to slice a 13-point deficit to five (55-50) with two minutes left. The Lady Falcons were outscored 5-2 down the stretch.
 

Renwicks added 12 points and Angela Caraballo (Jr./Richmond, VA) scored eight points for the Lady Falcons, who 43 shot percent in the first half. Bianca Igwe (Sr./Tampa, FL) contributed seven points.


Kyaja Williams scored 16 points and Chyna Butler added 10 points for the Bulldogs (5-0 CIAA, 13-1 overall), who shot 66.7 percent in the second half. Pere Alexander had nine points and seven rebounds.

 

The Lady Falcons (1-5 CIAA, 2-11 overall) are back in action Saturday, Jan. 12, against Lincoln (Pa.) University in a CIAA game inside Emery Gymnasium at 2 p.m. The home contest is the third in six days for the Lady Falcons.
