SAU Men's Basketball Handles Frostburg State In Season Opener

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 9) – Saint Augustine's University nearly led from start to finish in posting an 81-76 season-opening victory over Frostburg State University in the Shaw Classic men's basketball invitational at Spaulding Gymnasium on Saturday.

After falling behind 2-0, the Falcons (1-0 overall) took charge for their second season-opening win in two years. They took a 42-36 lead into halftime and opened a 16-point lead in the second half before withstanding a late Bobcat rally.

Frostburg State (0-2 overall) whittled the Falcons' lead to 75-71 with a little over two minutes left, but Jalen Gaddy (Sr./Raleigh, NC) swished a three-pointer for a seven-point cushion, which was enough breathing room to close out the contest.

Gaddy led the Falcons with 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting including 3 of 6 from three-point range. Miguel Brown (Jr./Wilson, NC) added 15 points and nine rebounds and Rashad George (Jr./Raleigh, NC) registered 11 points on 3 of 4 three-point shooting and nine rebounds.

Marquie Clemonts (Jr./Weldon, NC) and Donte Edwards (So./Durham, NC) each contributed nine points and Hirk Williams (Sr./Manassas, VA) chipped in eight points for the Falcons, who outscored the Bobcats in turnover points 17-12.

Daniel Alexander scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Bobcats. Terry Kenner added 13 points.

The Falcons play again Sunday, Nov. 10, in the Shaw Classic. They face Mansfield University at 2 p.m. inside Spaulding Gymnasium.
