SAU Softball Wraps Up CIAA Round-Up With 14-6 Win Over Lincoln (Pa.)

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (March 17) – Saint Augustine's University opened a big lead early and coasted to a 14-6 victory over Lincoln (Pa.) University in its final game of the CIAA Softball Round-Up at South Park Sports Complex on Sunday.
 

The Lady Falcons led 8-0 in the first inning and 14-1 in the second inning. The game ended in the fifth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule. They recorded season-highs in runs (14), hits (8) and RBIs (11).
 

Chandra Mackey (So./Nassau, Bahamas) led the Lady Falcons at the plate. She drove in a game-high and career-high three runs on 2-for-4 hitting.
 

Haley Sessoms (Jr./Kenansville, NC) was 2-for-3 with one double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Tanae Newry (So./Nassau, Bahamas) was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one run scored, and Makayla August (Jr./Palm Springs, CA) batted 2-for-2 with one double, one RBI and two runs scored.
 

The Lady Falcons' trio of Tatyana Hall (Fr./Greensboro, NC), Noel McNeil (Fr./Temple Hills, MD) and Celine Jones (So./Grand Bahama, Bahamas) each had one RBI and two runs scored. Selena Mullett paced Lincoln (1-6 CIAA, 2-16 overall) with two runs scored and one RBI on 2-for-3 hitting including a double and triple.
 

August gained the pitching win for the Lady Falcons. She struck out five batters and walked none while allowing two hits in three innings.
 

The victory was the first this season for the Lady Falcons (1-5 CIAA, 1-7 overall), who held their own against Northern Division teams despite fielding a young roster. One game ended in seven innings, and four runs or less decided two outcomes.
 

The Lady Falcons return home to host Bluefield State University in a doubleheader on Thursday, March 21. The starting times are 1 p.m. and approximately 3 p.m. at Lions Park.
