SAU Women's Basketball Falls To Nationally-Ranked Virginia Union On The Road

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 3) – Angela Caraballo (Sr./Richmond, VA) scored a season-high 19 points in her hometown for Saint Augustine's University (SAU) in a 78-49 CIAA women's basketball loss to nationally-ranked Virginia Union University on Monday at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

Caraballo was 8 of 13 from the floor, including 3 of 4 from three-point land, and added two steals. Kiana Clark (Sr./Queens, NY) finished with eight points, Shankia Clark (Sr./Orlando, FL) corralled six rebounds and Jordyn Burton (So./Durham, NC) tallied three blocks for SAU.


The Lady Falcons trailed 44-23 at halftime but outscored the Lady Panthers 19-14 in the third period to get within 16 points. They chopped the deficit to 14 points at 58-44 in the fourth period on a layup by Tanisha Wall (Sr./Franklinton, NC) but got no closer.


Ifunanya Okoye scored 22 points and Dy'Manee Royal added 15 points for the Lady Panthers (8-2 CIAA, 17-3 overall), ranked
10th nationally in the WBCA Division II Coaches Poll. The two-time defending CIAA champs scored 33 points off SAU turnovers.


The Lady Falcons (3-9 CIAA, 8-14 overall) are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 5, against Lincoln (Pa.) University in Lincoln University, Pa., at 5:30 p.m.
