SAU Men's Basketball Falls To Lincoln (Pa.) On Last-Second Shot

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 6) – Saint Augustine's University (SAU) fell 69-67 to Lincoln (Pa.) University on a last-second shot in a CIAA men's basketball game at Rivero Hall in Lincoln University, Pa., on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The Lions drained a jumper with 1.9 seconds left to hand the Falcons a two-point loss. The Falcons held a 15-point lead early in the second half before the Lions rallied.

Karaan Clemonts (Jr./Weldon, NC) scored 13 points and Geordan Walker (Jr./Durham, NC) added 12 points for the Falcons, who were 11 of 27 for 40.7 percent behind the three-point line. Jalen Gaddy (Sr./Raleigh, NC) contributed 10 points, and Gary Jefferson (Jr./Baltimore, MD) and Donte Edwards (So./Durham, NC) each chipped in eight points.


The Falcons were 7 of 13 behind the three-point arc for 53.8 percent in the first half to open a 37-26 halftime lead. Walker scored eight points, including 2 of 3 treys, to lead SAU. Edwards scored six points, including 2 of 2 three-pointers.


SAU cooled off in the second half, making 4 of 14 threes for 28.5 percent. The Lions relied on rebounding to cut into the Falcons' lead. They outscored the Falcons 13-3 on second chance points in the final stanza, including a three-point play off a rebound to tie the score at 67-67 with 48 seconds left.


After a three-point miss by SAU, the Lions (4-8 CIAA, 8-17 overall) scored on a pull-up jumper in the paint for the game-winner.


Zahrion Blue scored 21 points for Lincoln (Pa.), including the jumper that gave the Lions the win. He added 10 rebounds. Deaquan Williams had 12 points and 15 rebounds.


The Falcons (3-10 CIAA, 8-15 overall) return to Emery Gymnasium for their season home finale against Winston-Salem State University on Saturday, Feb. 8. Game time is 4 p.m. on Senior Day.
