SAU Volleyball Tops Livngstone, Remains Tied For First In CIAA Southern Division

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 8) – Madison Jones (Fr./Durham, NC) finished with 15 kills and Tionna Graham (Jr./Portmore, Jamaica) added 10 kills as Saint Augustine's University outlasted Livingstone 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21) at Emery Gymnasium to remain unbeaten Thursday in the CIAA Southern Division volleyball standings.

The Lady Falcons (3-0 Southern Division, 4-2 CIAA, 4-7 overall) are tied with Fayetteville State for first place in the division. It is quite a turnaround from recent seasons when they finished at or near the bottom of the division.

Sydney Moore (So./West Bloomfield, MI) had 18 assists and Zakiya Freeman (Fr./Riverdale, GA) added 14 assists for the Lady Falcons.

Janina Mayers (Sr./Christ Church, Barbados), named CIAA Defensive Player of the week, tallied 17 digs and Maegan Williams (Fr./Durham, NC) totaled 11 digs to go with eight kills and two service aces.

Moore and Freeman also had two service aces each.

The win ended a four-match losing streak to the Lady Blue Bears (0-3 Southern Division, 0-6 CIAA, 2-6 overall). SAU's last victory in the series was in November 2017.

Each set played on Thursday was close with the final three going down to the wire. Livingstone was a game opponent, giving the Lady Falcons all they could handle. The Lady Falcons had the fortitude, however, to finish off their opponent.

For Livingstone, Alexia Crutchfield recorded 15 kills and Victoria Onozie added 11 kills. Dekiya Wilson-Thomas had 26 assists and three service aces and Ja'Nya Lunnermon tallied 22 digs.

The Lady Falcons will step out of conference to play Hollins and Trinity (D.C.) in Roanoke, Va., on Saturday, Oct. 9. The match against Hollins begins at 12 p.m. followed by the Trinity match at 2 p.m.
