SAU Volleyball Falls To Fayetteville State In CIAA Quarterfinals

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 16) - No. 7 seed Saint Augustine's University, playing in its first postseason match since 2016, fell to No. 2 seed Fayetteville State 3-0 (13-25, 10-25, 28-30) in a CIAA volleyball quarterfinal match in Fayetteville, N.C. on Tuesday.

The Lady Falcons ended their season with a 9-15 overall record. The victory total (9) is more than the 2018 and 2019 seasons combined (3). The bulk of the team returns next season including All-CIAA performers Madison Jones (Fr./Durham, NC), Tionna Graham (Jr./Portmore, Jamaica) and Sydney Moore (So./West Bloomfield, MI).

Jones led the Lady Falcons with seven kills, one service ace and two blocks. Maegan Williams (Fr./Durham, NC) added five kills and seven digs, and Lisanne Roofe (Sr./Spanish Town, Jamaica) had five kills, one service ace, two assists and eight digs.

Moore finished with 15 assists and Janina Mayers (Sr./Christ Church, Barbados) totaled 10 digs. La'Tavia Braynen (So./Nassau, Bahamas) recorded three blocks.

After a slow start, the Lady Falcons played their best in the third set. They led several times including 23-22 before losing the set by two points.

Da'Nesha Miller had 13 kills, two blocks, 10 assists and nine digs for the Broncos (21-6 overall), who play Elizabeth City State in Friday's semifinals.

This was the final collegiate match for SAU seniors Tia Jones (Bridgetown, Barbados), Malique Webb (St. Catherine, Jamaica), Roofe and Mayers.
