RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 26) - Saint Augustine's University nearly rallied from a late deficit in a 103-96 men's basketball loss to Glenville State in Glenville, W.Va., on Friday.
Dhashon Dyson (So./Chicago) poured in 24 points and Todd Smith (Sr./Burlington, NC) scored a season-high 21 points for the Falcons, who trailed 91-79 with five minutes left.
A 17-9 run pulled the Falcons within 100-96 with 26 seconds left, but the Pioneers held on for the win.
Spencer Washington (So./Dallas, TX) finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Josh Page (Sr./Washington, DC) had 15 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Falcons, who shot 51 percent from the floor, including 47 percent behind the three-point arc. The Falcons outrebounded the Pioneers 46-36 which led to a 21-17 edge in second chance points.
John Williams scored 35 points for the Pioneers (2-2 overall), who made 47 percent of their shots and canned 13 of 39 three-point attempts for 33 percent. The Pioneers forced 25 turnovers and recorded 17 steals which led to a 30-19 advantage in turnover points.
This was the second meeting between both teams this month. Glenville State won 87-75 in the MEC/PSAC/CIAA Tipoff Challenge in Charleston, W.Va., on Nov. 12.
The Falcons (1-5 overall) were scheduled to visit Bluefield State on Saturday, Nov. 27, but the contest was postponed. They are back in action Wednesday, Dec. 1, at home against USC Aiken starting at 7:30 p.m.
