Five SAU Runners Competed In NCAA DII Atlantic Region Cross Country Championships

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 9) – Saint Augustine's University wrapped up its cross country season this past Saturday (Nov. 6) at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships in Lock Haven, Pa. Five SAU runners competed in the regional. Robert Edwards Jr. (Jr./Pembroke, Bermuda) ran in the men's 10K race, and the foursome of Joyce Jepleting (So./Kapsabet, Kenya), Ruth Jepkogei (Fr./Eldoret, Kenya), Ashley Weekes (Fr./St. George, Barbados), and Nia Kikivarakis (Fr./Nassau, Bahamas) ran in the women's 6K race. The Falcons and Lady Falcons competed twice against CIAA competition during the week to prepare for the Atlantic Region Championships. On Nov. 3, the Lady Falcons beat Livingstone 16-39 in a women's 3K dual meet in Salisbury, N.C. In the men's 4K tri-meet, the Falcons placed second with 33 points. Livingstone won with 27 points and Winston-Salem State was third with 60 points. Jepleting won the women's 3K race as the Lady Falcons took the top four spots. Jepkogei was second, Weekes finished third and Jaria Hoyte (Sr./St. Philip, Barbados) was fourth. Edwards Jr. was the men's 4K winner. On Nov. 4, two dual meets were held at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, N.C., with Saint Augustine's winning both races. The Lady Falcons defeated Elizabeth City State 17-38 in the women's 5K race, and the Falcons scored 15 points to win the men's 8K race over Winston-Salem State. Jepleting, Jepkogei, and Weekes finished 1-2-3 in the women's 5K race. Edwards Jr. and Sean Kalawan (Fr./Westmoreland, Jamaica) were first and second, respectively, in the men's 8K race.
