SAU Women's Basketball Falls Late To Virginia State In CIAA Opener

ETTRICK, Va. (Dec. 9) - Saint Augustine's University opened a seven-point lead in the third period, but Virginia State rallied for a 69-56 women's basketball win in the CIAA opener at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Thursday.
Jada Swafford (Sr./Alexandria, LA) scored a season-high 20 points for the Lady Falcons, who led 39-32 with 6:33 remaining in the third period. The Trojans (1-0 CIAA, 4-4 overall) then went on a 17-7 run to lead by three heading into the fourth period.
The Lady Falcons (0-1 CIAA, 4-4 overall) kept the score close in the fourth as they trailed 60-55 on a three-pointer by Lauren Banks (Fr./Clinton, MD). The Trojans finished with a 9-1 run in the final three minutes for the win.
Banks added 10 points for the Lady Falcons on 3 of 6 three-point shooting. Milequa Eason (Sr./Woodland NC) had three steals and Raquel Cassidy (Jr./Gainesville, FL) corralled seven rebounds.
Kaaliya Williams, a former All-CIAA player for the Lady Falcons, led four double-figure scorers with 16 points for the Trojans.
The Lady Falcons venture to Pembroke, N.C., on Sunday, Dec. 12, to take on UNC Pembroke in a non-conference game at 2 p.m.
