SAU Women's Basketball Falls To ECSU In Hard-Fought Battle

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (Dec. 19) – Ariyanna Brown (Jr./Charlotte, NC) and Jada Swafford (Sr./Alexandria, VA) scored 14 points each for Saint Augustine's University in a 78-70 women's basketball loss to Elizabeth City State at the R.L. Vaughn Center on Saturday, Dec. 18.

The contest was a hard-fought battle between two CIAA teams. The Lady Falcons led 18-13 after the first period, but the Vikings took a 39-37 lead into halftime.

The Vikings never trailed in the second half, but the Lady Falcons stayed within striking distance. The difference was at the free throw line, where the Vikings were 26 of 37 while the Lady Falcons were 11 of 11.

The Lady Falcons closed within 61-59 on a layup by Taniyah Greene (Fr./Cheltenham, MD) with five minutes left in the game, but the Vikings connected on 11 of 13 free throws down the stretch.

Nysja Bradford (Sr./Syracuse, NY) added eight points for the Lady Falcons. Felicia Jackson scored 16 points for the Vikings (2-0 CIAA, 9-2 overall).

The Lady Falcons (0-2 CIAA, 4-6 overall) will take a holiday break before hosting Alderson Broaddus at Emery Gymnasium on Dec. 31. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
