RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 7) - Saint Augustine's University nearly came back from a double-digit deficit in a 94-90 men's basketball loss to Johnson & Wales (N.C.) at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday.
The Falcons trailed by 14 points with under five minutes left, but Spencer Washington (So./Dallas, TX) converted a three-point play to slice the margin to 87-82 with 1:35 remaining.
The Wildcats (4-7 overall), who led by as many as 15 points in the second half, held on for the victory.
Dhashon Dyson (So./Chicago, IL) and Jaylen Richard scored 26 and 21 points, respectively, for the Falcons (2-7 overall). Washington totaled 18 points and 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Anthoney Ray of Johnson & Wales poured in 37 points to led all scorers. The Wildcats knocked down 13 of 23 three-pointers.
On Thursday, Dec. 9, the Falcons visit Virginia State in their CIAA opener in Ettrick, Va. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
