RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 31) - Milequa Eason (Sr./Woodland, NC) led a balanced attack with a career-high 19 points to lead Saint Augustine's University to 75-69 CIAA women's basketball win over Claflin at Tullis Arena in Orangeburg, S.C., on Monday.
Eason eclipsed her previous high of 18 points against Shaw in February 2020. On Monday, she was 6 of 9 from the floor, including 2 of 2 behind the three-point line, and added five rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Jada Swafford (Sr./Alexandria, LA) contributed 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists and Raquel Cassidy (Jr./Gainesville, FL) collected 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Lauren Banks (Fr./Clinton, MD) chipped in 10 points and Dasmine Kasey (Jr./Roanoke, VA) added seven points and two steals for the Lady Falcons, who gained their first road win of the season.
The Lady Falcons knocked down 20 of 27 free throws for 74.1 percent, including 12 of 17 in the fourth period, to fend off the Lady Panthers, who rallied from a seven-point fourth-period deficit to tie the game with five minutes left.
The Lady Panthers were gaining momentum, but Swafford finished them off at the free throw line, making 9 of 10 free throws in the final two minutes to preserve the win.
Blesseth Dillingham scored 17 points to pace four Claflin double-figure scorers.
The Lady Falcons improved to 3-2 in the Southern Division, 3-7 in the CIAA and 7-11 overall. The Lady Panthers dropped to 1-4 in the Southern Division, 3-8 in the CIAA and 4-15 overall.
The Lady Falcons continue their road stretch on Wednesday, Feb. 2, with a CIAA contest against crosstown rival Shaw. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
