Lady Falcons Bounce Back in a Major Way against Carolina University in 80-35 Rout

The Lady Falcons defeated Carolina University in impressive home win

BOX SCORE | SEASON STATS The Saint Augustine's women's basketball team bounced back after a four-game losing streak to defeat the Carolina University Bruins 80-35. The game was never in doubt, and after the Bruins kept it close in the first quarter, 20-12, the Lady Falcons tightened the pressure in the second quarter outscoring the Lady Bruins 19-5. The Lady Falcons kept the heat on in the second half, surrendering less than 10 points in each of the final two quarters.
 
The Lady Falcons saw four players in double-figures as Ariyanna Brown (Sr./Charlotte, NC) led all scorers with 17 points off the bench, including three 3-pointers. Taniyah Greene (So./Cheltenham, MD) finished with 15 points. Lauren Banks (So./Clinton, MD) finished with 11 points, Dasmine Kasey (Sr./Roanoke, VA) impressed with 9 points and 12 rebounds, including some dazzling transition passes. Raquel Cassidy (Sr./Gainesville, FL), in her first game of the season, shined finishing with a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. 
 
The Lady Falcons dominated the boards 58-30 on the night and held the Lady Bruins to a rough shooting night of 13-58 (22.4%).

"We were coming off a week and a half of just practice. We were able to get back in the lab and regroup. Become the team we know we are -- the team we are capable of playing as -- and the week and a half was beneficial for us. We needed this pick-me-up for momentum. It's a nice booster heading into conference play."

TEAM STATS 

  • The Lady Falcons got back in the win column after falling short in its last four games
  • SAU's bench scored 39 points, and outscored its counterparts by 27 (39-12)
  • Raquel Cassidy finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds in her first game of the season
  • The Lady Falcons hit 7 three-pointers and finished 7-14 (50 percent) from deep
  • SAU finished with three players almost reaching double-digit rebounds (Dasmine Kasey 12, Raquel Cassidy 10, and Christionna Faison 9)

SECOND HALF 

  • SAU's pressure defense held the Bruins scoreless for the first 3:11 of the third quarter
  • The Bruins went on a short 5-0 run to cut the Lady Falcons' lead to 26 with 4:20 remaining in the 3rd quarter 50-24
  • Ariyanna Brown closed the quarter red hot with back-to-back three-pointers, and started the 4th quarter with a deep 3 as well to extend the Lady Falcons' lead to 37
