Second Annual Lawrence Coleman Golf Tournament Set For June 17

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 10) – The second annual Lawrence Coleman Golf Tournament will be held Friday, June 17, at Hedingham Golf Course. The golfers tee off at 1 p.m.

The event, hosted by the Saint Augustine's University (SAU) Department of Athletics, is expected to draw well over 120 golfers. An added feature this year is the Sip-and-Paint Session, which begins at 2 p.m.

Click HERE or go to saintaugfalcons.com, the SAU official athletic website, to pre-register online for the Sip-and-Paint Session.

Also, SAU Athletics will make a major announcement during the welcome ceremony, which starts at 12:20 p.m. Television personality Stan Lewter will emcee the welcome ceremony.

Funds raised from the golf tournament will help SAU Athletics in its mission to provide student-athletes with a first-class experience during their time at SAU.

The tournament is named in honor of Coleman, the legendary head golf coach at then-Saint Augustine's College for 37 years before his retirement in 2009.

Under his guidance, the Falcons won five HBCU Division II national titles, one HBCU overall national crown, and seven CIAA conference championships. President Clinton invited the golf team to the White House after winning the HBCU overall national title in 1993.

A 1971 Saint Augustine's graduate, Coleman passed away last year. He is in the National Black Golf and CIAA Halls of Fame.

SAU Athletics would like to thank its sponsors for supporting the Lawrence Coleman Golf Tournament. If you are interested in being a tournament sponsor, contact Coach Bowser at dbowser@st-aug.edu and (919) 516-4250.

Hedingham Golf Club is home to an 18-hole championship golf course that meanders through the Hedingham Community and Neuse River area. The address is 4801 Harbour Towne Drive in Raleigh, N.C.
