Defensive effort not enough as Saint Augustine's falls to West Chester (PA) 68-61

PETERSBURG, VA --The Saint Augustine's men's basketball team kept West Chester (PA) to just 19.2 percent from 3-point range in a 5-for-26 shooting performance, but fell 68-61 to the Golden Rams at Virginia State University's Multipurpose Center on Friday as part of the PSAC/CIAA Challenge.

The Falcons (0-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Jalen Williams, who had 15 points. MacNasa Hughes tacked on 13 points, two steals and two blocks and Nemo Johnson helped out with a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

The Saint Augustine's offense was very productive from downtown, making eight threes on 24 attempts. Hughes was the most prolific shooter for the Falcons, draining three treys in the contest.

The Saint Augustine's defense caused its share of mistakes in Friday's game, forcing 14 West Chester (PA) turnovers while committing 13. Those takeaways turned into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Jordan Love led the way individually for the Falcons with three steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 2-0, Saint Augustine's went on a 6-0 run with 19:11 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Williams, to take a 6-2 lead. The Falcons then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 36-35.

Saint Augustine's could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 68-61. Saint Augustine's shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting four shots from deep to score 12 of its 26 points.
