Falcons drop 3-1 match to Elizabeth City State

BOWIE, MD --The Saint Augustine's volleyball team fell to the Elizabeth City State Vikings in four sets (22-25, 25-19, 16-25, 23-25) Saturday at AC Jordan Arena.

The CIAA Semifinal loss dropped Saint Augustine's to 13-13 on the season.

The Falcons were led by a double-double from Kavlyn Giacomelli, who registered 12 kills and 13 digs on the day. Madison Jones also added eight kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Nayara Pereira chipped in for with 14 digs to go with two blocks from Siayera Boone.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Falcons rallied from a seven-point 14-7 deficit, but Elizabeth City State held on to win the first set 25-22.

SET 2 | Saint Augustine's fired back after dropping the first set to take set two 25-19, tying the match at 1-1. The Falcons grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that had just one lead change before Saint Augustine's took over the lead. The Saint Augustine's offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Elizabeth City State responded to win set number three, putting Saint Augustine's in a two sets to one hole. The Falcons dropped the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set 25-16.

SET 4 | Saint Augustine's then fell in the fourth set 25-23 to finish off the match. The Falcons rallied from an eight-point hole at 22-14, but it wasn't enough as Elizabeth City State held on to win the set.
