RALEIGH, NC --The Saint Augustine's men's basketball team shot 56.2 percent from three-point range on the way to an 89-53 win against the Mid-Atlantic Christian Mustangs at home Wednesday.
The Falcons (4-5) had six players score in double figures, led by Nemo Johnson, who had 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Caleb Gilmore added 11 points off of the bench and Joshua Johnson helped out with 11 points, six rebounds and four steals off of the bench.
Saint Augustine's shared the ball well in Wednesday's game, racking up 19 assists on 36 made field goals. Individually, Jawan Browder led the way for the Falcons with three assists and Jalen Williams also chipped in with three assists of his own.
The Saint Augustine's defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Wednesday's game, forcing 22 Mid-Atlantic Christian turnovers while committing 18. Those takeaways turned into 25 points on the other end of the floor. Joshua Johnson's four steals led the way individually for the Falcons.
How It Happened
Saint Augustine's started out the scoring by going on a 13-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Jordan Love, to take an early lead with 16:44 left in the first half. The Falcons then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 44-28 advantage. Saint Augustine's did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 26 of its 44 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, Saint Augustine's kept widening that lead, expanding it to 73-43 before going on a 10-0 run to grow the lead to 83-43 with 3:21 to go in the contest. The Mustangs narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 89-53 win. Saint Augustine's got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 35 of its 45 total points.
