SAU Volleyball Finishes the UWG Tournament 0-3 to Start Season

CARROLLTON, Ga. (Sept. 10) - The Saint Augustine's University (SAU) volleyball team begin their season 0-3 as after falling to Georgia College, Emery & Henry College and Concord University last weekend at the University of West Georgia Tournament.  

Georgia College was the first contest for the Lady Falcons. GCSU took the 3-1 victory - 25-10, 14-25, 25-22, 25-14. La'Tavia Braynen (Sr./Nassau, Bahamas) led the team in 11 kills and also recorded 11 digs.  

Nayara Pereira led the defense for SAU having 23 digs. Setter Sydney Moore also displayed a valiant effort leading the team in service aces with three and assists with 16 along with 11 digs. Anya Coates also picked up eight blocks to lead the Lady Falcons.  

After winning a hard-fought first set in their second game of the day, SAU fell to Emery & Henry in 3-1 (25-26, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 25-10). Madison Jones led the Lady Falcons with 11 kills and also recorded 5 digs. Sydney Moore led SAU with 27 assists while La'Tavia Braynen and Nayara Pereira led the Lady Falcons with 10 digs apiece. Kya Otis also led SAU with four blocks.

For the second day of the WGU Tournament, the shorthanded Lady Falcons displayed an amazing effort by winning the first two sets before dropping the remaining three to fall 3-2 to Concord University (20-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-10). Madison Jones led the Lady Falcons again with 15 kills followed by another double double by La'Tavia Braynen who recorded 14 kills and 12 digs. Sydney Moore led SAU with 42 assists and 5 service aces while Nayara Pereira led the Lady Falcons with 18 digs. Kya Otis also led SAU with six blocks.

The Lady Falcons play again on September 13 to open conference play versus crosstown rival Shaw University. SAU will start the day at 6 p.m. Live stats and broadcast links are available at shawbears.com.
