Big games from Browder, Youngblood not enough in Saint Augustine's 50-48 loss to Bluefield State

BALTIMORE, MD --Jawan Browder and Nate Youngblood combined to score 30 total points, but the Falcons fell to the Bluefield State Big Blues 50-48 at CFG Bank Arena Monday.

Browder led the Falcons (12-17) with 21 points and six rebounds. Youngblood tacked on nine points and two blocks and Jordan Love helped out with nine points and seven rebounds.

Led by Chris Volo's three offensive rebounds, Saint Augustine's did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.

Saint Augustine's did a great job disrupting Bluefield State shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Nemo Johnson's three rejections led the way individually for the Falcons.

How It Happened

After playing to a 17-17 tie, Saint Augustine's went on a 9-0 run with 9:12 left in the first half to take a 26-17 lead. The Falcons then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 32-22 advantage. Saint Augustine's did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 32 points close to the basket.

Bluefield State proceeded to take a 41-37 lead before Saint Augustine's went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Love's layup, to seize a 42-41 lead with 7:47 to go in the contest. Bluefield State re-asserted control, outscoring the Falcons 9-6 the rest of the way to hand Saint Augustine's the 50-48 loss. Saint Augustine's took care of business in the paint, recording eight of its 16 points in the lane.
