RALEIGH, N.C. (July 27, 2022) – Marque Carrington is back at Saint Augustine's University (SAU).

Carrington has joined the men's basketball staff as lead assistant coach under Head Coach Chucky Brown. He held the same position at SAU from 2014 to 2016.

"I've known Marque for a while," said Brown, who was named head coach in April 2022. "He is smart, works hard, dedicated and knows the CIAA. Marque will help me bring in student-athletes who represent SAU on the court and in the classroom."

Before returning to SAU, Carrington was an assistant coach at Elizabeth City State University during the 2021-2022 season. Both SAU and Elizabeth City State are members of the CIAA.

A coaching veteran, Carrington is well-respected among his peers on the collegiate and high school levels. He has 20 years of coaching experience, including three years as head men's basketball coach at Southeast Raleigh High School (2018 to 2021).

At Southeast Raleigh, Carrington revived the basketball program and turned it into one of the top defensive teams in the Triangle area. In his last season, the Bulldogs finished with a 61.5 winning percentage in one of the toughest conferences in the state of North Carolina. It was Southeast Raleigh's highest winning percentage in men's basketball since the 2010–2011 season.

Licensed as a USA Basketball Gold Certified Coach, Carrington was also the assistant coach for the Garner Road boys' basketball 17-and-under team.

In 2016, Carrington was an assistant coach at his alma mater North Carolina A&T State University. From 2008 to 2014, he was the head men's varsity coach at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, N.C.

During his tenure at Cardinal Gibbons, Carrington was named Carolina 6 Conference Coach of the Year after his squad captured the 2010-2011 conference title.

Carrington is a huge advocate of student-athletes achieving academic success. In the 2013-14 season, Cardinal Gibbons earned the NCHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award for the highest overall grade point average among high school teams in North Carolina. His teams averaged 13 players per season on the Academic All-Conference Team.

Before becoming head coach, Carrington started his coaching career at Cardinal Gibbons as men's junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach from 2002 to 2008.

Early in his career, Carrington worked with the Raleigh Knights professional team and was head coach of the Garner Road AAU boys 17-and-under team, which was runner-up in the 2003 State Championships.

Carrington continuously support local charities and organizations through KTS Basketball, founded in 2011. The KTS Basketball Coaches' Clinics feature guest speakers from the NBA and ESPN in addition to widely respected college, AAU and high school coaches. In addition, the KTS Basketball "Bridging the Gap" series was designed to foster working relationships between prominent AAU and high school coaches and skill trainers in North Carolina.

For 20 years, Carrington played an integral part in leading and assisting youth basketball camps at local universities in North Carolina. He also assisted high school basketball talent evaluator Bob Gibbons at his evaluation clinics.

Carrington was a four-year basketball starter and scholarship player at N.C. A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C., where he majored in physical education and minored in sociology. He ranks among A&T's top 10 all-time steals and assists leaders.
