RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 20) – Saint Augustine's University fell to Johnson C. Smith University 3-0 in its CIAA Southern Division volleyball opener at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday.
Janina Mayers (Fr./Christ Church, Barbados) tallied team highs of six kills and 10 digs for the Lady Falcons (0-1 Southern Division, 1-3 CIAA, 1-6 overall). Zoey Isom (Sr./Phoenix, AZ) totaled 13 assists while Tia Jones (Fr./Bridgetown, Barbados) and Mechelle Moss (So./Nassau, Bahamas) collected eight digs and seven digs, respectively. Alyssa Smith (So./Orangeburg, SC) had three solo blocks and one blocking assist.
Anteesha Smoots finished with 11 kills for the Golden Bulls, who won 25-17, 25-10, 25-10. Joi Haywood had 25 assists and Georgina Diaz registered 12 digs. The Golden Bulls are 1-0 in the Southern Division, 4-0 in the CIAA and 6-4 overall.
The Lady Falcons play again Saturday, Sept. 22, in the CIAA Round-Up II in Richmond, Va. They face Bowie State University at 12 p.m. and Lincoln (Pa.) University at 2 p.m.
