SAU Men's Basketball Shoots Season-High 59.1 Percent In Win Over Regionally-Ranked Lincoln (Pa.)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 12) – Hot shooting by Saint Augustine's University (SAU) keyed a late surge in a 72-62 CIAA men's basketball victory over regionally-ranked Lincoln (Pa.) University at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday.

The Lions entered the week ranked regionally for the first time in school history, but the Falcons, who shot a season-high 59.1 percent, outscored their opponent 45-32 in the second half for the win. A 20-10 run in the final 7:30 broke a 52-52 tie and clinched the contest for the Falcons, who gained their first conference victory of the season.

Jalen Gaddy (Jr./Raleigh, NC) keyed the spurt, scoring eight points in that stretch. His three-pointer and layup on back-to-back possessions around the three-minute mark gave the Falcons the breathing room (64-55) they needed.

The Falcons junior finished with a game-high 21 points, the most he has scored since a Nov. 11, 2018 victory over Mansfield University (89-74) when he dropped 24 points in the second game of the season. Fourteen of his points came in the second half when the Falcons wrestled control from the Lions, ranked eighth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll.

Tyre Gathright (Sr./Wilmington, NC), the team's scoring leader, did his part as well. He added 20 points in the win, but this time he got scoring support from Gaddy and Hirk "Trey" Williams, who scored a career-high 14 points, his first game in double figures. Rashad George (So./Raleigh, NC) and Craig McDaniel (Sr./Holly Springs, NC) both chipped in seven points in a team effort. The 45 points were the third-most the Falcons have scored in the second half this season.

The Falcons made 66.7 percent of their shots in the second half while holding the Lions to 37.5 percent. SAU was especially hot behind the three-point arc, making 5 of 9 treys in the second half. The top three-point shooting team in the CIAA, the Falcons (1-5 CIAA, 4-10 overall) swished 11 of 19 overall for 57.9 percent, tied for the team's second-highest percentage behind the arc this season.

Their play in the second half erased a 30-27 halftime deficit. The Lions (4-2 CIAA, 11-6 overall) twice led by eight in the first half but a Gathright three-pointer and a Williams jumper closed the gap to three at the break.

Cameron Campbell was the Lions' top scorer with 20 points and Deaquan Williams added 11 points. Tamir Green and Jordan Camper each scored nine points.

The Falcons' homestand continues Monday, Jan. 14, against defending CIAA champion Virginia Union University at 7:30 p.m. This will be their fifth consecutive home game and fourth in seven days.
