RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 15) – Angela Caraballo (Jr./Richmond, VA) scored 15 points for Saint Augustine's University in a 78-46 CIAA women's basketball loss to nationally-ranked Virginia Union University at Emery Gymnasium on Monday, Jan. 14.
Bianca Igwe (Sr./Tampa, FL) added nine points and Kamya Renwicks (Jr./Baltimore, MD) finished with eight points for the Lady Falcons. The trio of Igwe, Renwicks and Shankia Clark (Jr./Orlando, FL) each snatched six rebounds.
Led by eight points from Caraballo, the Lady Falcons built a 17-14 lead in the first period. The Lady Panthers, sparked by 36 points from Shareka McNeill, steadily pulled away from the Lady Falcons afterward.
Ifunanya Okoye had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Panthers (5-1 CIAA, 14-1 overall), who is tied for 12th nationally in the WBCA Coaches Poll and ranked 19th nationally in the D2SIDA Poll. Rejoice Spivey chipped in 11 points.
The Lady Falcons (1-7 CIAA, 2-13 overall) have finished CIAA cross divisional play for the season. Their last 10 regular-season games are against Southern Division opponents beginning with Winston-Salem State University at home on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m.
