Clark Of SAU Posts Double-Double In Women's Basketball Loss To Elizabeth City State

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 7) – Shankia Clark (Jr./Orlando, FL) of Saint Augustine's University tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season in a 66-54 women's basketball non-conference loss to CIAA foe Elizabeth City State University at Emery Gymnasium on Monday.

Her first double-double in a Lady Falcons' uniform comes on the heels of an 18-point night against nationally-ranked Virginia Union University on Friday, Jan. 4. Her 13 rebounds are a season-high for Clark, surpassing her previous best of 11 against Claflin University on Dec. 8, 2018. She also led the Lady Falcons with three assists against Elizabeth City State.

Clark scored 12 points in the first half, including six points during an impressive second period for the Lady Falcons. Bianca Igwe (Sr./Tampa, FL) and Kelsee Arnold (Sr./Atlanta, GA) also scored six points apiece as the Lady Falcons outscored the Vikings 23-2 in the second period to erase a nine-point deficit and go ahead 35-23 at halftime. The Lady Falcons held the Vikings to one field goal in the period as the Vikings shot 1 of 16 from the floor for 6.3 percent.

The Lady Falcons scored the first two buckets of the third period to open a 16-point margin, but the Vikings outscored the Lady Falcons 30-9 in the period to regain the lead. Trailing by nine entering the fourth period, the Lady Falcons closed within seven on three free throws by Angela Caraballo (Jr./Richmond, VA) with 2:40 remaining after she was fouled on a three-point attempt. They would get no closer, however.

Igwe and Arnold added 10 points each, and Kamya Renwicks (Jr./Baltimore, MD) chipped in six points, five rebounds and three steals for the Lady Falcons (2-10 overall). Asia Deal led four double-figure scorers with 22 points for the Vikings (10-5 overall).

This was the second meeting this season between both teams. The first game was a CIAA matchup that the Vikings won 69-48 in Elizabeth City, N.C., on Dec. 15, 2018. The Lady Falcons held a one-point lead at halftime.

The remainder of the Lady Falcons schedule will count in the CIAA standings, beginning with Bowie State University at home on Thursday, Jan. 10, at 5:30 p.m.
