SAU Volleyball Gives Strong Effort In Loss To JCSU

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 23) - Saint Augustine's University (SAU) played with pep and vigor despite losing 3-0 to Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA Southern Division volleyball match at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The Lady Falcons never quit despite falling behind in the first and second sets. The third set was up for grabs before the Golden Bulls prevailed in a 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 victory.

SAU led 15-12 at one point during the third set. The score was tied 19-19 before the Golden Bulls closed out the set with a final run.

Brittany Jamison (Sr./Charleston, SC) was the top scorer for the Lady Falcons with a match-high 14 kills. She added nine digs and Deandra Small (Fr./Christ Church, Barbados) contributed eight kills, nine digs and three aces.

Chandra Mackey (Jr./Nassau, Bahamas) had 22 assists and two aces and Janina Mayers (So./Christ Church, Barbados) finished with 20 digs. Alyssa Smith (Jr./Orangeburg, SC) totaled three blocks.

For the Golden Bulls (3-4 Southern Division, 6-6 CIAA, 7-8 overall), Brianne Davis collected nine kills and Taylor Smith added eight kills. Cydney Calhoun had 33 assists and Joi Haywood tallied eight digs.

The Lady Falcons (0-6 Southern Division, 0-11 CIAA, 0-11 overall) travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., on Monday, Oct. 28, to face Winston-Salem State University. The match starts at 6 p.m.
