RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 14) – Quiera Gilmore (Sr./Charlotte, NC) scored 18 points and Angela Caraballo (Sr./Richmond, VA) added 15 points for Saint Augustine's University (SAU) in a tough 91-81 double overtime women's basketball loss to Elizabeth City State University at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday.
The contest was the CIAA conference opener for the Lady Falcons, who thrilled their fans numerous times before falling late. Kamya Renwicks (Sr./Baltimore, MD) collected 10 points and Tanisha Wall (Sr./Franklinton, NC) grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds for SAU, which scored 27 points off 29 ECSU turnovers and shot a season-best 45.5 percent behind the three-point arc.
Their defense and three-point shooting kept the Lady Falcons (0-1 CIAA, 4-4 overall) ahead much of the game. They built a 10-point third-period lead and led by seven with 6:52 remaining in the fourth period on Caraballo's three-pointer.
Caraballo hit two free throws for a 67-61 SAU lead with 1:32 left, but the Vikings (2-0 CIAA, 4-5 overall) rallied to force overtime. The contest went to a second overtime, where the Lady Falcons were outscored 16-6.
Kaaliya Williams (Sr./Richmond, VA) chipped in nine points and Shankia Clark (Sr./Orlando, FL) added eight points for SAU. Wall scored six points to go with her double-figure rebounding total.
Sirenna Pitts totaled 23 points and 18 rebounds for the Vikings, who were 26 of 38 from the free throw line. Markeia Porter added 15 points and Devona Stell scored 14 points.
The Lady Falcons are back on the court Monday, Dec. 16, in a home conference game against Virginia State University. Game time is 4 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium.
