SAU Women's Basketball Falls To Winston-Salem State Late

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Dec. 21) – Saint Augustine's University fell to Winston-Salem State University 69-57 at the Gaines Center on Saturday in a women's basketball game that was closer than the score indicated.

The game was tight throughout, and the Lady Falcons only trailed 52-49 with seven minutes left on a jumper by Kaaliya Williams (Sr./Richmond, VA). The Rams then went on a final 17-8 run to pull away from the Lady Falcons.


Kamya Renwicks (Sr./Baltimore, MD) finished with 17 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Falcons (1-1 Southern Division, 1-3 CIAA, 5-6 overall). Williams added 13 points and Milequa Eason (Jr./Woodland, NC) scored 10 points.


The score was tied 20-20 after the first period, and the Lady Falcons were only behind 29-26 at halftime. Their deficit was four, 49-45, after three periods, and the Lady Falcons kept pace in the fourth period until the Rams made their late run.


Melody Pritchard scored 28 points to lead the Rams (2-0 Southern Division, 3-3 CIAA, 6-6 overall). Brandi Segars had 12 points and 10 rebounds.


The Lady Falcons enter the holiday break before resuming action in 2020. They host Virginia Union University in a CIAA non-conference game at Emery Gymnasium on Jan. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
