RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 8) - Jalen Gaddy (Sr./Raleigh, NC) scored 21 points for Saint Augustine's University (SAU), but the Falcons fell 60-59 to LeMoyne-Owen College on a last-second overtime shot Sunday in the McAfee Memorial Classic in Atlanta, Ga.
LeMoyne-Owen scored on a three-point basket with one second remaining for the win. Donte Edwards (So./Durham, NC) had given the Falcons a 59-57 lead on a three-pointer with six seconds left.
Edwards scored nine points and Rashad George (Jr./Raleigh, NC) added seven points, nine rebounds, three steals and three assists for the Falcons (2-4 overall). Miguel Brown (Jr./Wilson, NC) also snatched nine rebounds.
Gaddy scored 15 first-half points on 5 of 7 three-point shooting, including back-to-back three-pointers for a 32-26 SAU halftime lead. The Falcons built a 13-point lead early in the second half before the Magicians rallied.
Tyrone Banks and Jaquan Lawrence both scored 12 points for the Magicians (3-3 overall). Kenneth Perkins added 10 points. Torreious Carwell, who hit the game-winning three-pointer, scored six points.
The Falcons outrebounded the Magicians 38-33 including 11-6 on the offensive boards. SAU also outscored its opponent 17-11 in turnover points.
The Magicians shot 40.8 percent compared to 37.9 percent for the Falcons. At the free throw line, the Falcons were 7 of 11 compared to 13 of 22 for LeMoyne-Owen.
The Falcons are back at home against Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, Dec. 14, inside Emery Gymnasium at 4 p.m. The contest between both CIAA teams is designated as a non-conference matchup.
