SAU Men's Basketball Routs Lincoln (Pa.) With Hot Shooting, Stellar Defense For Third Straight Win

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 11) – For the third straight game since the holiday break, Saint Augustine' University (SAU) shot lights out against an opponent.

And for the third consecutive game, their torrid shooting resulted in a victory for the Falcons.

Donte Edwards (So./Durham, NC) led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points and Hirk Williams (Sr./Manassas, VA) added 12 points as the Falcons breezed to a 93-60 men's basketball victory over Lincoln (Pa.) University at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday.

The contest was designated as a non-conference matchup between the CIAA schools, but that didn't matter to the Falcons, who are on a roll in 2020. SAU is 3-0 in the New Year and building momentum with each win.

Torrid shooting has keyed the Falcons in all three wins. They have shot over 50 percent in each game, including 53.7 percent against the Lions (4-13 overall).

The difference in this win was holding the Lions to 28.8 percent shooting, a season-low for an SAU opponent this season. The contrast in shooting between both teams led to the Falcons' biggest winning margin (33 points) this season.

The Lions tied a season-low with 60 points and their field goal percentage was a season-low.

The Falcons (5-8 overall) put Saturday's game away early, setting the tone with a 16-0 run to stretch a one-point lead into a 17-point margin midway in the first half. Leading by 16 late in the half, the Falcons finished with another run – this time a 7-0 spurt capped by Miguel Brown's (Jr./Wilson, NC) two-hand dunk - for a 46-23 lead. SAU went into the locker room at halftime ahead 46-26.

The second half was more of the same for the Falcons, who led by 32 points after a three-pointer by Edwards with 7:29 remaining in the game. The margin reached a whopping 36 points on a two-hand dunk by Vernon McWhite (Fr./Fayetteville, NC) with 23 seconds remaining.

Karaan Clemonts (Jr./Weldon, NC) tacked on 11 points and Brown had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Falcons. Gary Jefferson (Jr./Baltimore, MD) and Jalen Gaddy (Sr./Raleigh, NC) each registered nine points and Aaron Johnson-Cash (So./San Francisco, CA) collected eight points and nine rebounds. Edwards and Williams led an SAU bench that scored 48 points.

Jordan Camper led the Lions with 16 points and Keynante Williams chipped in 10 points. In addition to their offensive struggles from the floor, the Lions were woeful from the free throw line, shooting 44.1 percent (15 of 34).

The Falcons play their fourth straight home game in 10 days on Monday, Jan. 13, against Livingstone College in a Southern Division matchup. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium.
