SAU Women's Basketball Stays Close With Regionally-Ranked Lincoln (Pa.) Before Falling Late

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 11) – Saint Augustine's University (SAU) battled regionally-ranked Lincoln (Pa.) University to a standstill for three periods before falling 70-61 in a non-conference women's basketball contest between CIAA teams at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday.

The score was tied 20-20 after the first period and SAU led 30-29 at halftime. SAU only trailed 45-42 entering the fourth period, but the Lions outscored the Lady Falcons 25-19 in the fourth period to pull away. The Lady Falcons trailed 59-53 on two free throws by Kaaliya Williams (Sr./Richmond, VA) with 3:17 left, but were outscored 11-8 down the stretch.

The Lady Falcons, one of the nation's best at forcing turnovers, scored 18 points off 26 Lincoln miscues to stay close. Free throws were their undoing, however, as they made 22 of 40 for 55 percent.

Neither team shot well from the floor as the Lady Falcons made 27.4 percent and the Lions connected on 32.8 percent. The Lions (14-3 overall) shot 29 of 38 for 76.3 percent from the charity stripe, which gave them the edge.

Williams led the Lady Falcons (5-8 overall) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Milequa Eason (Jr./Woodland, NC) added 12 points and six rebounds and Angela Caraballo (Sr./Richmond, VA) scored 11 points.

Skydajah Patterson scored 19 points for the Lions, ranked sixth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll. DeAshia Young tallied 10 points.

The Lady Falcons conclude a three-game homestand on Monday, Jan. 13, against CIAA Southern Division foe Livingstone College at Emery Gymnasium. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
