RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 4) - Dhashon Dyson (So./Chicago, IL) scored the game-winning layup with 1.1 seconds left to give Saint Augustine's University a 77-75 men's basketball victory over Bluefield State at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday.
A steal by Ryan Moore (So./Creedmoor, NC) in the closing seconds led to Dyson's layup. Bluefield State was playing for the last shot after stealing the in-bounds pass, but Moore stripped the ball in the lane from Hirotaka Ohashi, who was driving to the basket.
Moore passed to a wide-open Dyson, who outraced a Bluefield State player to the basket for the layup.
Dyson scored all 14 of his points in the second half as the Falcons erased a 42-38 halftime deficit. Sean Tony Hauser (Jr./Charlotte, NC) powered his way to a season-high 25 points and Spencer Washington (So./Dallas, TX) added 15 points.
Jordan Hinds led a balanced attack with 18 points for Bluefield State (0-4 overall), which raced to a 50-40 lead early in the second half. The Falcons (2-6 overall) quickly rallied back, and the lead changed hands three times before Dyson's bucket capped the win.
The Falcons are back in Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 7, to host Johnson & Wales (N.C.) at 12 p.m.
