RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 15) - Saint Augustine's University nearly came back from a huge deficit before falling 61-58 to Winston-Salem State in the CIAA Southern Division men's basketball opener at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday.
CIAA leading scorer Dhashon Dyson (So./Chicago, IL) scored 24 of his game-high 26 points in the second half as the Falcons roared back from an 18-point deficit. He buried a three-pointer and Sean Tony Hauser (Jr./Charlotte, NC) added a bucket to get the Falcons with 57-52 with a little over a minute remaining.
The Falcons got no closer until Dyson's layup for the final score with one second left.
Jaylen Richard (Durham, NC) added 19 points for the Falcons (1-3 CIAA, 3-11 overall). Javonte Cooke scored 22 points for the Rams (4-2 CIAA, 10-4 overall).
The Falcons return to action Monday, Jan. 17, against Virginia Union at home. Tipoff is 4 p.m.
