RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 27) - Saint Augustine's University stayed close with Livingstone early before running out of steam in a 69-54 CIAA men's basketball loss at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday.
Todd Smith (Sr./Burlington, NC) scored 17 points and Sean Tony Hauser (Jr./Charlotte, NC) added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Falcons, who led by six midway in the first half. They entered halftime behind only 34-30 to the Southern Division contenders.
The Blue Bears pulled away in the second half. Their lead grew to 16 with five minutes remaining.
Khyree Temple scored 14 points and Darus Maddox added 12 points for Livingstone (4-0 Southern Division, 6-2 CIAA, 9-5 overall).
CIAA scoring leader Dhashon Dyson (So./Chicago) contributed 13 points for the Falcons, who played their sixth straight home game. They travel to Fayetteville State on Saturday, Jan. 29, for a 4 p.m. contest.
The Fayetteville State matchup will be the first away game of 2022 for the Falcons (0-3 Southern Division, 1-7 CIAA, 3-15 overall).
