FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 29) - Vernisha Robin (Jr./Miami, FL) had season-highs of 16 points and nine rebounds for Saint Augustine's University in a 61-44 CIAA women's basketball loss to Fayetteville State at Capel Arena on Saturday.
Robin was 5 of 7 from the floor and 6 of 8 from the free throw line. She also tallied one block.
Lauren Banks (Fr./Clinton, MD) added 12 points and four steals for the Lady Falcons (2-2 Southern Division, 2-7 CIAA, 6-11 overall). Raquel Cassidy (Jr./Gainesville, FL) finished with seven points and 10 rebounds.
The trio of Rasheka Simmons, Imani Elliott and Danica Lucas scored 12 points each for the Broncos (3-2 Southern Division, 6-3 CIAA, 9-8 overall).
The Lady Falcons held the Broncos to 33.3 percent shooting but committed 34 turnovers, which allowed FSU to pull away in the second half. SAU trailed 26-22 at the half, but FSU took control after the break, outscoring the Lady Falcons 22-7 in the third period.
SAU heads to Orangeburg, S.C, to face Claflin on Monday, Jan. 31. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
