RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 12) - The Saint Augustine's University men fell to Claflin University 63-55 in a CIAA basketball game at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, but the story for the Falcons was Moses Mupungo (Jr./Congo, Africa).
The Falcons' forward scored a team-high 11 points in eight minutes of action. He was perfect offensively, making 5 of 5 shots from the floor and swishing his only attempt from the free throw line.
Mupungo surpassed his previous season high of nine points against Virginia-Lynchburg back in November 2021.
Chris Hill (Jr./Charlotte, NC) added 10 points for the Falcons, who led 23-17 at halftime and held a nine-point lead in the second half. The 17 points are the fewest at halftime by an SAU opponent this season.
The tide turned in the second half after the Falcons increased their lead to 38-29 with under 13 minutes remaining. The Panthers came back to tie the score three times before going on a 21-13 run in the final eight minutes.
The Panthers outscored the Falcons 46-32 in the second half.
Christopher Evans scored 15 points to lead the Panthers.
The Falcons are now 2-6 in the Southern Division, 3-11 in the CIAA and 5-19 overall. The Panthers are 3-5 in the Southern Division, 5-10 in the CIAA and 6-18 overall.
The next game for the Falcons is Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Livingstone in Salisbury, N.C. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
This will be the last away game of the regular season for the Falcons.
