Hot Three-Point Shooting Propels SAU Men's Basketball Past Livingstone

SALISBURY, N.C. (Feb. 17) - For the second straight road game, Saint Augustine's University felt right at home on an opponent's floor.

The Falcons shot lights out on Wednesday, Feb. 16, in a 76-73 CIAA men's basketball win over Livingstone at New Trent Gymnasium.

SAU won in an opponent's gym for the second consecutive time. Last Wednesday, the Falcons defeated Johnson C. Smith.

And just like the Smith game, the Falcons buried the Blue Bears with blazing hot shooting behind the three-point arc. They connected on 13 of 24 treys for 54.2 percent on Wednesday. Against Johnson C. Smith last week, the Falcons also made 13 of 24 three-pointers.

The guard trio of Jaylen Richard (Jr./Durham, NC), Dhashon Dyson (So./Chicago) and Todd Smith (Jr./Burlington, NC) provided the firepower behind the arc. They combined to make 11 of 21 three-point shots.

Richard scored 24 points and Dyson was right behind with 23 points. Smith added 14 points as the Falcons weathered the storm time and time again inside a raucous gymnasium.

The Livingstone fans were in a frenzy after a vicous dunk by De'Marr McCrae extended the Blue Bears' lead to 57-50, but Smith swished back-to-back threes to pull the Falcons within one.

His treys ignited a 21-6 run that ultimately led the Falcons to victory. The Falcons withstood a late rally by the Blue Bears, who missed two three-point attempts in the waning seconds which would have sent the game into overtime.

O'Koye Parker scored 24 points to lead four double-figure scorers for Livingstone, which made 10 of 26 threes for 38.5 percent. The Falcons connected on 17 of 26 free throws and the Blue Bears made 9 of 16 from the charity stripe.

Sean Tony Hauser (Jr./Charlotte, NC) snatched nine rebounds for the Falcons, who won the battle of the boards 37-34.

This was the last away game of the regular season for the Falcons. They host Fayetteville State University in the final regular-season game on Saturday, Feb. 19, before heading to the CIAA Tournament in Baltimore next week.

Game time against Fayetteville State is 4 p.m. The contest is designated as Senior Day.
