SALISBURY, N.C. (Feb. 17) - Saint Augustine's University took care of business in the second half of its women's basketball game on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
As a result, the Lady Falcons are on a two-game win streak.
CIAA Rookie of the Week Lauren Banks (Fr./Clinton, NC) led all scorers with 19 points as the Lady Falcons pulled away from Livingstone 69-59 at New Trent Gymnasium.
Post players Raquel Cassidy (Jr./Gainesville, FL) and Taniyah Greene (Fr./Cheltenham, MD) added 13 points and 12 points, respectively, as the Lady Falcons dominated inside. They outscored the Lady Blue Bears 34-22 in the paint.
The Lady Falcons flexed their muscles down low, particularly in the third period. They outscored the hosts 26-17 to extend a one-point halftime lead to 10. An attempted fourth-period rally by the Lady Blue Bears fell short as the Lady Falcons swept the season series.
Dasmine Kasey (Jr./Roanoke, VA) chipped in seven points and five assists for the Lady Falcons, who held the Lady Blue Bears to 29 percent shooting. Summer Dilwood (So./Atlanta, GA) contributed six points and Cassidy finished with three steals. Jada Swafford (Sr./Alexandria, VA) grabbed nine rebounds to go with five points.
Jamiah Lane and Kiya Fulton both scored 12 points for the Lady Blue Bears.
The Lady Falcons improved to 5-4 in the Southern Division, 5-10 in the CIAA and 9-14 overall. The Lady Blue Bears fell to 0-9 in the Southern Division, 3-12 in the CIAA and 5-19 overall.
SAU won consecutive games two other times during the season. With the CIAA Tournament approaching, the current streak couldn't have come at a better time.
Only one game remains on the regular season schedule before the tournament begins next week. The Lady Falcons host Fayetteville State at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 19. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
Saturday's contest is designated as Senior Day.
