Raleigh, NC. – The Saint Augustine's women's basketball team held off a feisty Claflin University team as the home crowd provided much needed sixth-man energy. The Lady Falcons got out to a very strong start and led by 13 at the half (39-26). Things got interesting in the fourth quarter at the Panther ripped off a 14-1 run to bring the Lady Falcons lead to one (56-55). After the Panthers gained the lead late, Ariyanna Brown, who was hot all night from 3, nailed a clutch 3-pointer to regain the lead with 2:17, and the Lady Falcons held on at home. SAU is now 6-10 on the season, and 2-6 in conference play.
The Lady Falcons were led by Ariyanna Brown and Taniyah Greene with 17 and 15 points respectively. Brown knocked in five 3-pointers (5-8)
Head Coach Ebony Tanner Postgame Comments
"We started off the game hot. We are a transition team looking to get the ball and push it in transition, and we were able to do that in the first half. As we came out at halftime, it was our goal to keep pushing. We knew that Claflin would go on a run, and we hoped we'd be more effective when they did decide to go on that run, but I was able to regroup the girls, they locked in, and we were able to control that run."
