MURFREESBORO, NC --The Saint Augustine's men's basketball team shot 50 percent from deep on the way to an 87-82 win against the Chowan Hawks on the road Wednesday.
The Falcons (2-1) had five players score in double figures, led by Jordan Love, who had 20 points and nine rebounds. Kaleb Glasper added 13 points and six rebounds off the bench and Nate Youngblood helped out with 12 points.
Youngblood pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead the Saint Augustine's offense which grabbed 11 boards and turned them into seven second chance points.
The Saint Augustine's defense caused its share of mistakes in Wednesday's game, forcing 13 Chowan turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the offensive end of the floor. Nemo Johnson's two steals led the way individually for the Falcons.
How It Happened
After falling behind 13-7, Saint Augustine's went on a 16-0 run with 15:06 left in the first half, culminating in a three from MacNasa Hughes, to take a 23-13 lead. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 43-40 advantage. Saint Augustine's capitalized on 10 Chowan turnovers in the period, turning them into 11 points on the other end of the floor.
Saint Augustine's started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Love's jumper, to grow the lead to 49-40 with 18:30 to go in the contest. The Hawks then fought back to even things up at 73-73 and send the game to overtime. Saint Augustine's took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 30 points in the lane.
Chowan then snagged an 80-79 advantage with 1:37 left in the second overtime before Saint Augustine's responded by going on a 6-0 run to seize an 85-80 lead with 23 seconds to go in the period. The Falcons held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 87-82 win.
