Saint Augustine's wins turnover battle and takes down Belmont Abbey 59-55

RALEIGH, NC --The Saint Augustine's men's basketball team had 11 fewer turnovers than Belmont Abbey in a 59-55 win over the Crusaders at home Saturday.

The Falcons (3-1) had three players score in double figures, led by MacNasa Hughes, who had 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Jordan Love added 14 points and three steals and Nemo Johnson helped out with 12 points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

Nate Youngblood pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace the Saint Augustine's offense which grabbed 13 boards and turned them into 10 second chance points.

Saint Augustine's defense held Belmont Abbey to only 39.5 percent shooting from the field. The Falcons also limited Mason Taylor to 3-of-12 shooting and nine points in the game. The Crusaders did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with eight offensive rebounds and managed four second chance points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 31-19, Saint Augustine's went on a 7-0 run with 1:54 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Hughes, to narrow its deficit to 31-26, a score that would hold until halftime.

Saint Augustine's narrowed its deficit to 39-36 before going on a 7-0 run to seize a 43-39 lead with 11:21 to go in the contest. The Falcons held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 59-55 win. Saint Augustine's capitalized on 11 Belmont Abbey turnovers in the period, collecting 11 points off those turnovers.
