Saint Augustine's falls 82-75 to West Virginia State University

INSTITUTE, WV --The Saint Augustine's men's basketball team got a 40-point performance from the bench, but fell 82-75 to the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets on the road Saturday.

The Falcons (3-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Nemo Johnson, who had 16 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. George Jones tacked on 13 points off the bench and Jawan Browder chipped in as well with 12 points from the bench.

Led by Johnson's five offensive rebounds, Saint Augustine's did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 12 second chance points.

The Saint Augustine's defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 18 West Virginia State University turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 23 points on the offensive end of the floor. Jordan Love's three steals led the way individually for the Falcons.

How It Happened

After falling behind 13-2, Saint Augustine's went on an 8-0 run with 14:30 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Mussa Mzein, to narrow its deficit to 13-10. West Virginia State University answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Falcons down 37-32 entering halftime.

West Virginia State University kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 71-55 advantage before Saint Augustine's went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Love's layup, to shrink the deficit to 71-64 with 5:36 to go in the contest. The Falcons were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 82-75. Saint Augustine's took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 43 points in the lane.
