CHARLOTTE, NC --The Saint Augustine's men's basketball team got a 33-point performance from the bench, but fell 71-66 to the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls on the road Saturday.
The Falcons (12-12, 8-6) had two players score in double figures, led by Jawan Browder, who had 19 points and two steals. Jordan Love added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists and Chris Volo added eight points and two blocks.
Saint Augustine's utilized fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 17 assists on 24 made field goals. Individually, Kaleb Glasper dished out the most for the Falcons with four assists.
The Saint Augustine's defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 14 Johnson C. Smith turnovers while committing 10. Those takeaways turned into seven points on the other end of the floor. Browder's two steals led the way individually for the Falcons.
How It Happened
After falling behind 26-24, Saint Augustine's went on a 7-0 run with 3:08 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from MacNasa Hughes, to take a 31-26 lead. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 31-28 advantage. Saint Augustine's did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 31 points close to the basket.
Johnson C. Smith proceeded to take a 57-52 lead before Saint Augustine's went on an 8-0 run to seize a 60-57 lead with 3:40 to go in the contest. Johnson C. Smith re-asserted control, outscoring the Falcons 14-6 the rest of the way to hand Saint Augustine's the 71-66 loss. Saint Augustine's took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 35 points in the lane.
