ORANGEBURG, S.C. --The Saint Augustine's men's basketball team shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, but fell to the Claflin Panthers 73-62 on the road Saturday.
The Falcons (12-14, 8-8) had two players score in double figures, led by Jordan Love, who had 16 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Williams added 10 points and Nemo Johnson added nine points, six rebounds and three steals.
The Saint Augustine's offense made hay from three-point land, pouring in eight threes on 16 attempts. Love hit three treys for the Falcons in the contest.
The Saint Augustine's defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 15 Claflin turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 19 points on the other end of the floor. Johnson's three steals led the way individually for the Falcons.
How It Happened
After playing to a 10-10 tie, Saint Augustine's went on an 8-0 run with 13:58 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Williams, to take an 18-10 lead. Claflin then responded to tie things up at 33-33 heading into halftime. Saint Augustine's took advantage of 10 Claflin turnovers in the period, and scoring 15 points of those tunrovers.
Claflin broke the tie, taking control in the second half and winning 73-62. Saint Augustine's shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting four shots from deep to score 12 of its 29 points.
