Saint Augustine's falls 64-54 to Shaw

RALEIGH, NC --Chris Volo collected 12 rebounds and Nemo Johnson added 10 more, but the Saint Augustine's men's basketball team fell to the Shaw Bears 64-54 at home Tuesday.

Jordan Love led the Falcons (12-15, 8-10) with 19 points. Johnson tacked on nine points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks and Volo chipped in as well with eight points and 12 rebounds.

Led by Johnson's five offensive rebounds, Saint Augustine's did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 15 boards that resulted in 16 second chance points.

The Saint Augustine's defense held Shaw shooters to just 36.8 percent from the field, including 25 percent from three-point range. The Bears did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only seven offensive rebounds and scored nine second chance points while Saint Augustine's pulled down 29 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

Saint Augustine's started out the scoring by going on a 9-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Love, to take an early lead with 17:02 left in the first half. The Falcons then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 24-22.

Saint Augustine's could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 64-54. Saint Augustine's got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for nine of its 32 total points.
